Metrolineas is a Slow Fashion brand based out of the Bronx on a mission to empower rural, international communities by forging sustainable, economic bridges to global markets. Our love for our heritage combined with wanting to have a [long-lasting] impact translates into #WomenEmpowerment.

The vital aspect of the goal of women’s empowerment is connected to improving health and nutrition status, ensuring food security, eliminating hunger, and reducing poverty. [National Library of Health]

Embarking on a Journey

Across the Andes

We joined the #SlowFashionRevolution and decided there was no better country to begin our adventure than Perú! So we sent the Peruvians in our team back home to travel across the Andes Mountains with a mission to complete while maintaining the vision: Keep beautiful traditions alive by expressing culture through modern fashion.

Áncash, Perú

Hand-Knitting

We found and teamed up with some of the toughest women from a small village in Áncash, Perú to co-design our one-of-a-kind balaclavas. Although farming is their primary source of income, the women of Áncash are skilled knitters and we are now pushing their handmade pieces to the global market.

Cusco + Huancavelica, Perú

Handweaving

Our direction may be #WomenEmpowerment but our course is #HumanEmpowerment. We also teamed up with various artisans, all experts in traditional Peruvian weaving across the Andes.

Staying true to local weaving traditions, we co-designed our scarves + capes with refreshed patterns and modern designs.

We are at the beginning of our journey but take pride in keeping our promise of fair compensation, ethically sourced / high-end materials, and honest pricing. Nothing less.

We begin our focus in having a [positive] impact by partnering with Peruvian artisans who handmake elegant pieces with ethically sourced alpaca wool.

Every purchase of an alpaca piece directly supports the people of the hands who made them.
